A new patch is available for pwCatch to make it compatible with DAZ Studio 1.8.

To install this patch:

If you did not download and install pwCatch for DAZ Studio 1.7, you must go to your DAZ account page, reset your pwCatch download, and install that update.

Unzip the linked file to your DAZ Studio directory.

Download the pwCatch 1.8 patch

Fixed in this update:

The "Use Backdrop" feature will no longer cause the object to render as all black in DS 1.8.

The update for pwSurface is now available. The following changes have been made:

Significantly faster shadow map generation

Significantly faster AO

Multiple opacity-mapped surfaces above an AO surface will now occlude correctly (before only the closest surface would occlude)

Opacity maps saved as grayscale (not RGB) will now work as expected

Displacement is now identical to the Dz- shaders

"Diffuse Fill Strength" has been removed from the Tutor

To get the update, go to your DAZ account page, click "Itemized Order History", locate "pwSurface" and click its "Reset" link. The download should become available in your account shortly thereafter. Contact DAZ's technical support if it does not.

If you purchased pwSurface on or after 5/16/06, you do not need to get the update.

If you haven't already, scope out the pwSurface Presets discussion board.

There are new presets popping up almost daily, and you can upload your own to share with other users. Recently, other DAZ Published Artists have been getting into the act. Neo10 just posted a series of skin presets, and others, like stonemason and AprilYSH, have sets in the works.
pwSurface

A potent surface shader that brings a wealth of professional features to DAZ|Studio. You'll be able to render lush, soft skin, luxurious jade, marble and many other different kinds of materials, using powerful tools like subsurface scattering, translucence, ambient occlusion and translucence.
Features

Can be used with any figures, objects or maps that you own.

Soft Diffusion and Specularity gives you precision control over how light hits the surface.

Subsurface Scattering allows light to enter and illuminate the surface from within, and is the technique professionals turn to for simulating skin.

Ambient Occlusion shadows wrinkles and crevasses, bringing definition and detail to your renders.

Translucence allows light to shine through one side of the surface to the other, and is perfect for plants' stems and leaves.

One-click quality control lets you pick your render time without any hassles.

An interactive tutor that shows you the effects of each property and helps you pick settings as you go.

Five material presets to help you get started.

All standard surface features are supported.
